Among them, the production of more than 10 kinds of traditional Chinese medicine in Guangxi accounted for 50% to 80% of the national total output. The production of Mangosteen, Millettia, and Broad bean root accounted for more than 90% of the national output. At the same time, a large number of Chinese herbal medicines, ethnic medicines, and folk medicine prescriptions are circulated in 12 ethnic minority settlements in Guangxi. The national medicine industry, represented by Zhuang Yao medicine, is well-established, and it is widely used in the domestic and foreign markets. More than 30 kinds of proprietary Chinese medicines such as Pills, Baccarat, Sanjin Tablets, and Safflower Tablets have also become brands.

It is reported that in view of the industrial advantages of Guangxi's Chinese medicine industry, and at the same time promoting the construction of the national Chinese medicine base, the government of the country and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region have decided to increase investment in Guangxi's ethnic medicine research. Among them, the Ministry of Science and Technology will plan to support the development of standardized planting bases and extract quality standards for large variety medicinal materials or real estate medicinal materials such as Mangosteen in the first batch of special projects launched in the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan”. Guangxi will increase investment in science and technology, focus on the development of proprietary Chinese medicines and extracts of traditional Chinese medicines, properly develop Chinese Herbal Medicines, strengthen the development and protection of herbal resources, and actively carry out studies on the development of quality management standards for Chinese herbal medicines and base construction.

At present, Guangxi has established one national engineering laboratory related to R&D of Chinese medicine, two state-level enterprise technology centers, and three national key Chinese medicine research laboratories. More than 200 enterprises have passed national GMP certification. According to the plan, by 2015, Guangxi's pharmaceutical industry will achieve industrial development, with a sales income of 32 billion yuan, an added value of 12.8 billion yuan, and a profit tax of 3.2 billion yuan.
