Medtronic will donate insulin pumps to adolescents across the country

Medtronic, a global leader in medical technology, has launched an impactful initiative to support young people with type 1 diabetes across China. As part of its "Wings of Dreams" charity program, the company is donating advanced intelligent insulin pumps to 30 children under 18 years old. This initiative aims to improve the quality of life for these young patients by providing them with cutting-edge treatment options that are often out of reach due to high costs. The program started with a diabetes story essay contest, where experts and media representatives selected the recipients. Liu Mei, a top student from Sangzhi County in Hunan Province, became the first recipient. She was recommended by Beijing 301 Hospital and CCTV, highlighting the importance of collaboration between medical professionals and the media in identifying those in need. Type 1 diabetes, though accounting for only 3% of all cases, significantly impacts the lives of children who suffer from it. Insulin pumps are currently considered the most effective treatment method, allowing for continuous insulin delivery and better blood sugar control. However, many families cannot afford this life-changing technology. Medtronic has long been committed to addressing this issue, ensuring that more young patients can access the care they deserve. The donated pumps, known as the Fast 712 model, are designed with advanced features such as intelligent bolus calculation, which helps users manage their insulin doses more effectively based on food intake or blood sugar levels. The device also includes safety features like automatic checks, alarms for low medication, and water-resistant design, making it both reliable and user-friendly. With a basal rate as precise as 0.05 units per hour, the pump offers flexibility for different lifestyles, making it ideal for adolescents who are active and constantly on the move. Its compact size and Chinese interface further enhance usability, making it easier for both patients and healthcare providers to operate. Li Bingrong, President of Medtronic Greater China, emphasized the company’s mission to raise awareness about the challenges faced by young diabetics. “We believe that every child deserves the chance to live a healthy and happy life,” she said. “While our efforts are limited, we hope to inspire others to join us in supporting this important cause.” Through initiatives like the “Essay Competition for Patients Under 18” and donation programs tied to product purchases, Medtronic continues to expand its impact. The company's goal is not just to provide medical solutions but to foster a society that values and supports the health of all children, especially those living with diabetes. In 2007, Medtronic Minimed aimed to make a lasting difference, reminding everyone that no child should be held back by their condition. With love, awareness, and collective action, the future of diabetic children can be brighter, healthier, and full of possibilities.
