First, seed treatment: The cut potato pieces are left in a natural environment for 2-3 days to allow the wounds to dry out. Once dried, the pieces are stacked and covered with a plastic sheet. When the buds reach about 2 mm in length, they are ready for planting. To enhance germination, the seed potatoes are soaked in gibberellin (90% concentration). This process involves washing off the starch after cutting, and then soaking the pieces in a solution of 1 gram of 9200 (gibberellin) in 500-2000 liters of water, depending on the desired concentration (2-5 ppm). The potatoes are again stacked, with the bottom layer covered in straw or thatch, and then wrapped in a plastic sheet. After the buds grow to approximately 2 mm, they can be sown.
Second, soil selection: Choose land at an elevation of around 1600 meters above sea level, with good transportation access. The soil should be loose, sandy loam with high fertility. It is important to avoid areas previously used for tobacco or other Solanaceae crops to maintain the purity of the seed potatoes.
Third, planting density: Use a double-row single planting method, with a large row spacing of 1 meter, small row spacing of 0.4 meters, and plant spacing of 0.2 to 0.3 meters. This ensures a planting density of 5000 to 5500 plants per acre.
Fourth, cutting the seed potatoes: Use a clean, non-greasy knife without salt. Cut the top of the seed potato vertically to break the top bud. Then, divide the tuber so that each piece contains 1-2 buds, with each piece weighing between 25 to 30 grams. Allow the cut surfaces to dry before planting.
Fifth, base fertilizer application: Apply 1000 kg of well-rotted farmyard manure, 50 kg of calcium, 20 kg of urea, and 15 kg of potassium sulfate as the base fertilizer before planting.
Sixth, field management: About 30 days after planting, perform the first weeding while lightly hilling the soil. Ten days later, do the second hilling and weeding to ensure proper drainage. Depending on the growth of the seedlings, you may apply additional urea or foliar fertilizers as needed to support healthy development.
