**How to Produce Fermentation Beds**
Let’s take the Gold Baby Fermentation Bed as an example. This system uses a simple "dry spreading" method and a fool-proof process. With just "one dose and one material" and "five layers of four fungicides," it's easy to set up.
For a 20-square-meter bed:
1. Dilute 2 kg of gold treasure compound (in a 5:1 ratio) with 10 kg of rice bran, corn flour, or other similar materials, then divide into 4 parts.
2. Prepare about 2 tons of dry sawdust (with a total thickness of at least 50 cm), and split it into 5 parts.
3. Start by laying down 10 cm of sawdust, then add a layer of fungi. Repeat this process for a total of five layers of sawdust and four layers of fungi.
4. Once the bed is ready, place the pigs inside. Do not add any water, and keep the density at 1.2–1.5 square meters per pig. Piglets may need a smaller area, but overall, the space should be adequate. After two to three days, the fermentation process will begin, breaking down the feces naturally.
This dry-type fermentation bed doesn’t require pre-fermentation or added water, making it very user-friendly.
**Maintenance of the Fermentation Bed**
Proper maintenance is essential for the long-term function and performance of the fermentation bed. Here are some key points to consider:
**3.1 Moisture Control**
The moisture level in the excrement, urine, and the central layer should stay below 65%. To check, grab a handful of material — if no water drips and no visible watermark appears, it’s just right. Too dry or too wet can disrupt the fermentation process. If it's too dry, microbial activity slows down; if too wet, it can cause poor ventilation, leading to anaerobic conditions and foul smells. A drainage slot should be placed under the water trough to remove excess moisture. Typically, the surface should be around 20–30% humidity, while the middle layer should be 50–65%.
Regularly monitor and adjust the moisture. Lightly spray water if dry, or add dry litter to absorb excess moisture. Gently mix the litter to promote even distribution, or remove and replace damp sections.
**3.2 Regular Turning**
Turn the bed every 1–2 weeks, to a depth of 20–30 cm. This helps maintain even decomposition and prevents compaction.
**3.3 Proper Ventilation**
Ensure good air circulation by using skylights, ground windows, and regular windows. In hot weather, use an induced draft fan to enhance airflow. Open the skylight during the day and close it at night to regulate temperature. Adjust ventilation based on the season and climate to keep the bed warm in winter and cool in summer.
**3.4 Adding Litter and Bacteria**
Over time, the litter may settle, so regularly add new material and beneficial bacteria to maintain the proper depth. This ensures that the core fermentation layer, protective layer, and buffer layer remain functional and balanced.
By following these steps, you can maintain a healthy and efficient fermentation bed that supports both animal welfare and environmental sustainability.
