The drug stent is still safe and effective

The drug stent is still safe and effective. On March 20th, at the China Interventional Cardiology Conference jointly sponsored by the Chinese Medical Association and the American Congress of Cardiovascular Therapy and the Paris Revascularization Conference, the President of the Conference and the Chinese Medical Association Cardiovascular Disease Branch Academician Gao Runlin and European Society of Cardiology expert Eric pointed out that the drug stent is still safe and effective. The overall incidence of thrombosis is not significantly different from that of bare stent. However, patients who cannot adhere to long-term dual antiplatelet therapy should give up drugs. Bracket, using a bare bracket.
Gao Runlin said that after completing the drug stent, patients must take dual antiplatelet drugs (aspirin + clopidogrel) for no less than 12 months. For some complex lesions and special patients, the treatment time needs to be extended. For patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery who must discontinue clopidogrel, it is recommended to use aspirin and to restore clopidogrel as early as possible to avoid stent thrombosis. This has become the consensus for prevention of thrombosis.
At the World Congress of Cardiology held in 2006, some scholars first proposed that "drug stents may cause late thrombosis and increase mortality", and it is a hot topic of debate about whether drug stents are safe. Under the influence of public opinion, some patients have panic about drug stents, and some doctors feel awkward. Gao Runlin pointed out that a series of randomized clinical trials of drug stents in the medical community in 2007 showed that the overall safety of drug stents was not significantly different from that of bare stents. The incidence of death and myocardial infarction was not significantly different from that of bare stents. In patients who use drug stents, there is an increasing trend of late thrombosis after one year, with an annual increase of 0.2% to 0.5%. However, drug stents have a significant role in reducing restenosis and revascularization of target lesions. Compared with bare stents, the risk of late thrombosis does not offset its beneficial effects.
Gao Runlin pointed out that researchers have been looking for more ideal drug stents, one for drug modification and the other for improving drug-loaded polyester polymers. New biodegradable polymers and biodegradable scaffolds are currently being developed, and some have entered the clinic. ——Shanghai Medical Device Industry Association
