Aspirin can significantly reduce the risk of bowel cancer

Aspirin anticancer research results have been reported recently. A new study in the United Kingdom shows that long-term use of aspirin can significantly reduce the risk of colorectal cancer. This is the first result based on a long-term randomized controlled trial that provides strong evidence for the anticancer effect of aspirin.

Researchers from institutions such as the University of Newcastle in the UK recently reported the results on the website of the British medical journal The Lancet. The study began in 1999 and a total of more than 800 participants were randomly divided into two groups. One group took 600 mg aspirin daily for at least two years, and the other served as a control.

Most of these participants are people with a disease called Lynch Syndrome. This is a genetic disease in which patients have a higher risk of bowel cancer due to genetic problems. However, a follow-up survey conducted in 2010 showed that the proportion of patients with aspirin who received colorectal cancer was significantly lower than that of the control group, with only about half of the latter. Those with long-term use of aspirin have a cancer risk that can be reduced by more than 60%. .

Professor John Bone, who led the study, said that the study reveals the long-term effectiveness of aspirin in preventing cancer. This effect may not necessarily appear in the short-term, and it will take many years to see the benefits of aspirin.

He also reminded that aspirin has some side effects, such as easy to cause gastric ulcers, etc. People need to decide whether to take long-term aspirin according to their own actual conditions. However, in general, aspirin should be given more benefit than harm due to people with high risk of cancer, such as Lynch Syndrome.
