Characteristics of the damage: The thin mosquitoes lay their eggs in the cracks or wounds in the neck of the mulberry roots, and excrement causes the ulceration of the roots and necks of the mulberry trees, resulting in the death of the entire mulberry tree.

Morphological characteristics Adult mosquitoes are 2–2.5mm long, 4.5mm wingspan, yellow soft hairs on the wings, and brown spots. The hind wings are reduced to balance bars. Egg length 0.6mm, long oval, milky white. The last-instar larvae are 2.5–3 mm in length, cricket-like, young larvae white, and later orange-red. The head is red-brown; the abdomen is orange-red to red, and the wings are dark brown.

Habits of life The second generation of Guizhou, the second generation of mature larvae in the sang Miao root neck or a few building rooms overwintering. Activities began in mid-March of the following year. In late April, larvae emerged. In early May, adults emerged. In mid-late and late May, they reached the peak of emergence. The first-generation larvae were observed in mid-May, the first larvae in early July, and the middle larvae in mid-July. The generation of adult worms continued until late September. The second-generation larvae appeared in mid-July and winters after November. The newly hatched larvae are very quick in action, and they are immediately harmed after hatching. They attack the dermis and forming layers. After the larvae are matured, the larvae are immersed in the adobe or soil chamber within 1cm to 2cm of the top 5cm around the host.

Control methods (1) Spray 50% phoxim EC or 80% dichlorvos EC and 40% Dimethoate EC 1000 times in late May and early June, and require roots to get wet to effectively control generation larvae. (2) From September to mid-April of the following year, the overwintering larvae were controlled by the above method and controlled once or twice. (3) Prior to mid-April, the soil (before eclosion after pupa) increased the thickness of the soil layer at the base of the mulberry tree, causing the larvae to be unfeathered.
