Once the straw is properly broken down, these microbes continue decomposing the organic matter, producing hydrogen ions and carbon atoms that eventually combine to form methane (CH₄), the main component of biogas.
By utilizing crop residues alongside or instead of livestock manure, rural communities can maintain the efficiency of their biogas systems while adapting to changing agricultural practices. This shift not only ensures a steady supply of raw materials but also promotes more diversified and resilient rural energy solutions.
