How to manage the egg goose

During the egg-laying period, geese should be fed a balanced diet that combines both concentrated feed and grazing. The diet should consist of approximately 60-70% cereals, 10-15% oilseeds, 10-15% bran, 10-15% fillers such as grass flour, and 4-5% mineral supplements. In addition to free access to green feed, each adult goose should receive about 150–180 grams of feed per day, while goslings get around 100–130 grams. Feeding should be done three times daily, with a consistent schedule. It's important to start with coarser feeds and then move to finer ones. Morning grazing should continue until 10 o'clock, followed by feeding in the shade near water for rest. A second feeding is recommended at 2 p.m., and grazing resumes after 3 p.m. The final feeding takes place in the evening after the third meal. In terms of management, geese during the laying period tend to be slower, so it’s best to guide them while grazing. Avoid steep slopes and uneven terrain to prevent internal bleeding or injuries that could lead to peritonitis. Eggs should be collected regularly, and if certain geese show signs of not wanting to follow the group, vocalizing loudly, or appearing disturbed, they may be searching for a nest. These geese should be brought back to the shed or house for egg-laying. Special attention should be given to young laying hens to avoid wild or underwater eggs. The daily light exposure for geese during the laying period should be at least 13 hours, increasing to 15–16 hours during peak egg production. To improve the fertility rate of eggs, it's essential to meet the nutritional needs of breeding geese and maintain a proper male-to-female ratio of 1:5 to 1:10. An ideal water source and a moderate-sized aquatic area are also necessary. For every 100 geese, there should be a water area of 40–60 square meters. Male geese are known to fight, especially during morning and evening mating periods, so they should be separated promptly to avoid injuries. Male geese typically live for 3–4 years and should be replaced annually to maintain a healthy breeding population.
