Frozen vegetables are healthier

According to a report by Beijing Youth Daily, a new study shows that frozen vegetables are healthier than imported “fresh” vegetables sold at supermarkets during the off-season.

Researchers say that some fresh-looking vegetables have lost many vitamins and minerals after a long journey. In contrast, refrigerated vegetables are usually refrigerated within a few hours of picking, thus maintaining their nutrient content.

The nutrient loss of vegetables after long distance

The study was published by the Australian Consumers Association. In the past few days, some scientists claimed that orange juice that can be stored for a long time is just as healthy as fresh orange juice. The vitamin content of peas, cauliflower, beans, sweet corn, and carrots is much higher than fresh vegetables imported from Italy, Turkey, and Israel. The fresh vegetables sold in winter are usually from southern Europe or Africa and it is easy to lose some of their nutritional value.

The spokesman of the association, Kohlberg, said: "For consumers, this information is to make them not worry about cold vegetables are not as good as fresh vegetables, especially when fresh vegetables are not in season."

The amount of lead, cadmium, and pesticides in fresh vegetables tested by Australian researchers was high, and some of the indexes of peppers and lettuce imported from Spain were the highest.
