As Halloween approaches, I've finally taken the time to dive into some festive decorating. Unlike previous years where I only focused on fall decor, this year I wanted to add a touch of the spooky season to our home. I'm thrilled I did, as it's been such a fun experience, and my girls absolutely adore it.
One thing I've learned is that Halloween decor doesn't have to be over-the-top or overly loud. There are plenty of neutral, understated pieces available now that can blend beautifully with your existing design style. It’s all about finding those timeless staples that can elevate your space without overwhelming it.
I picked up a few essential Halloween decor items that I believe will remain classics for years to come. Let’s take a closer look at some of these timeless pieces:
First up are the ceramic ghosts. Who doesn’t love a good ghost during Halloween? These candle holders from Walmart are versatile and look fantastic whether lit or simply displayed as decorative pieces. They’re a must-have for adding that classic spooky charm.
Next, we have the black spider candle holders. These heavy-duty beauties remind me of something you’d find at a high-end store like Pottery Barn. I snagged them at Kirklands for a fraction of the price. They’d look amazing on a dining table with black taper candles, or styled alone like I’ve done here.
Jack-o-lanterns are another quintessential element of Halloween. I found some terracotta pumpkins at Michaels, and even transformed an old white and orange metal pumpkin by giving it a fresh coat of black paint. Remember, you can always update something by changing its color!
Witch hats were an instant hit with my girls. They even grabbed the brooms from the garage to play pretend flying witches around the neighborhood. I picked up some adorable felt witch hat garlands at Walmart, which I hung on the shutters—definitely my favorite addition.
Lastly, paper bats and crows are fantastic budget-friendly options that make a big impact. I placed bats in our dining room and crows in the living room. These lightweight decorations can easily be moved around and fit into any design theme.
Halloween decor can be simple, elegant, and seamlessly integrate with your fall setup. It’s such a fun season to embrace, and I didn’t want anyone to miss out just because traditional decor feels a bit intense.
