Under the Sea… and Three
There’s something magical about watching your child grow, isn’t there? It feels surreal sometimes, especially when you’re still holding onto the memory of their tiny newborn hands and feet. But here we are—celebrating Brayden’s third birthday. He’s not so little anymore. The tiny baby who fit perfectly in my arms is now this energetic, curious little person who fills our home with laughter and endless chatter. I can still picture the day he was born so vividly. The overwhelming joy, the tears of happiness—it was everything. And now, looking at him running around with his friends at his under-the-sea-themed birthday bash, it hits me all over again: he’s growing up way too fast! We originally planned an outdoor poolside party, but Mother Nature had other plans. A couple of chilly weekends in Florida meant we had to move the festivities indoors. No problem! With a little creativity—and a lot of blue poster board—we transformed our living room into an underwater wonderland. My amazing friend helped me cut and tape the posters into waves and coral reefs, while my son Brayden kept asking if we were ready yet. Spoiler alert: he loves movies, and his favorite flick lately has been The Reef. So naturally, he insisted on having a "reef party." And yes, that included M&M cookies. Because what’s a birthday without a little sweetness? For the food, we went all out. We set up a cereal bar stocked with his favorite sugary cereals, along with waffle bites dipped in chocolate and sprinkles. For dessert, we had a beautiful cake from Sweet Caroline’s Bakery and an assortment of M&M cookies. The pièce de résistance? A giant piñata shaped like a shark filled with candy and small toys. The kids absolutely loved it! Decorations were simple but effective. We hung paper lanterns that we’d saved from a previous party, added a fishing net strung across the ceiling with photos of Brayden, and scattered inflatable sea creatures around the room. My friend Luvalexa designed some adorable printables for us, including invitations and table settings, which really tied the whole theme together. And let’s not forget the piñata, which came from Amazon along with the rest of the party favors like bubble bottles, shark squirters, and fish-shaped bouncy balls. Sugar definitely played a role in keeping everyone energized throughout the day. We served frozen ice pops and let the kids dive into bowls of candy. By the end of the party, their cheeks were sticky, but their smiles were even wider. I’ll admit, I got choked up a few times during the celebration. Watching Brayden light up as he opened presents and played with his friends reminded me just how lucky we are to have him in our lives. His big sister was cheering him on from the sidelines, and it was clear she adored being his partner-in-crime. Thank you to everyone who helped make this day special for Brayden. Relish Studios captured all the moments beautifully, and Luvalexa’s printables added that personal touch. Even though planning took some effort, seeing the joy on his face made it worth every minute. Little three-year-old, you are loved beyond measure. Your energy and enthusiasm brighten every single day. Here’s to many more birthdays ahead filled with laughter, love, and adventures!
