Method for preventing and treating mangosteen stroma of mango stripes

Mangosaurus lateralis, commonly known as the shoot borer or mango borer, is a pest that primarily affects mango trees. The larvae of this insect resemble aphids and feed on tender shoots and young inflorescences, causing shoot tip dieback and wilting. This damage can significantly impact the tree's growth and flowering. Effective control methods are essential to prevent serious infestations. One effective cultural control method involves clearing the garden during winter. As the branches dry, any cracks in the bark can be filled with rotted material and soil. Then, rice straw, coco pupae, and hibiscus leaves can be tied around the trunk to attract the larvae. After 8 to 10 days, inspect the area and manually remove the larvae to reduce their population. For chemical control, insecticides should be applied when new shoots or inflorescences are about 1 to 3 centimeters long. A single treatment is usually sufficient, but it should be repeated every 10 days for 2 to 3 times. Recommended insecticides include 90% trichlorfon, 50% chlorimidicarb, 20% chlorfenoxaban (diluted 800 times), 40% dimethoate or omethoate (800–1000 times), and 50% Daofengsan (diluted 200 times). Other options such as safrole, dichlorvos, phosphorothioate, and acephate can also be used depending on availability and local recommendations. It's important to rotate insecticides to avoid resistance development. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety guidelines when applying chemicals. Combining cultural and chemical methods often provides the best results in managing this destructive pest. Regular monitoring of the mango trees throughout the growing season is also recommended to catch infestations early.
